In 2010, BellaDOG Magazine began compiling and analyzing data to crown Top 10 Most Dog-Friendly Cities.  We collected statistics from the most populated cities in the United States that would make the city "dog-friendly." We took into consideration a number of factors such as dog parks, outdoor dining areas, public parks, groomers, pet shops and much more.

Florida had four cities make the Top 10 Most Dog-Friendly Cities (St. Petersburg, Miami, Tampa, and Jacksonville) but they fall short to a couple of western cities.

#10 Cincinnati, Ohio

In 2008, Cincinnati was also ranked 10th Best U.S. Walking City in Prevention magazine, so it makes sense that 10th Most Dog Friendly City would follow! Festivals like the Taste of Cincinnati crowd the streets with a half a million visitors annually, and almost just as many dogs. Things are only getting better for the dog owners of Cincinnati, as construction of The Banks and the Cincinnati Waterfront Park near completion.

#9 Jacksonville, Florida

The largest city by area in the continental United States, Jacksonville has plenty of park space and beautiful nearby beaches to let your dog run around in the Florida sunshine.  Boating and fishing are extremely popular in this area, so if you have a dog that loves the water, they will think they are in doggie heaven.

Albuequerque, NM Dog Friendly City

#8 Albuquerque, New Mexico

Next to the Sandia foothills and Rio Grande River is #8. "Everyone has a dog (or two or three) in Albuquerque. There is a great regional restaurant chain called The Flying Star," recommends Joan Schweighardt. "They have dog biscuits, water bowls, and outdoor hookups for dogs!" Mike Davis of the Watermelon Mountain Ranch, New Mexico's largest no-kill animal shelter, agrees, "For owners living in or visiting the Duke City (that's local for Albuquerque), there are many dog parks, dog friendly restaurants and more."

#7 Jersey City, New Jersey

In the 1980s this city's waterfront was converted from old rail yards and factories to beautiful high-rises and parks overlooking the Manhattan skyline (and they never looked back.) The Hudson Riverfront Walkway and Hacksensack RiverWalk are home to hundreds of dog walkers each day!

San Francisco, CA Dog Friendly

#6 San Francisco, California

With over 200 parks, this city's landscape makes it the perfect habitat for any dog lover.

Garrett Dodge, co-founder of Fido Factor, agrees that San Francisco Bay Area is one of the most dog friendly parts of the country and has many large dog parks to chose from.  "Point Isabel is one of our favorites.  It is the largest fenced dog park in the country, located just outside of Berkeley and a short drive from San Francisco.  It features a cafe, dog wash, and great views of the city."

#5 Tampa, Florida

Whether your dog would like to go for a jog on the world's longest continuous sidewalk (4.5 miles along Tampa Bay), or take a dip in the warm channel water as cruise ships pass by Davis Islands dog park, this Florida city has a lot to offer. Hyde Park Village hosts dog-friendly shops and dining, as well as frequent art shows and music festivals to meet other furry friends.

Miami, FL Dog Friendly

#4 Miami, Florida

The affluent areas of Miami Beach, Coconut Grove, and Key Biscayne are home to some of the most pampered pooches on the planet.  Lincoln Road, an upscale pedestrian mall located in the heart of South Beach, is where the dog and people watching experience cannot be matched!

With over an astonishing 770 outdoor dining restaurants listed on Urban Spoon, nearly all of them dog-friendly, Miami is our most restaurant-dog friendly city on our list.

#3 St. Petersburg, Florida

Home to BellaDOG Magazine and hundreds of dog-friendly restaurants and events, St. Petersburg is Florida's most dog friendly city!  Stroll along the shores of Tampa Bay at Vinoy Park and grab a bite to eat with your pooch on Beach Drive in this third most dog friendly city.  Nearby, Fort De Soto Beach (off-the-leash dog beach) was rated for the second consecutive year as America's Top Beach by TripAdvisor!

Las Vegas, NV Dog Friendly

#2 Las Vegas, Nevada

Runner Up to the 2010 Most Dog Friendly City lies in the southwest desert.

Las Vegas resident Joseph Lilly owns a Bouvier Des Flandres, Lab Mix, and two Border Collies.  "Town Square and The District at Green Valley are both dog friendly and some store owners even keep treats behind the counter!" Joseph added, "Lake Mead is a great dog friendly trip - dog owners can rent a boat and take their pooch out for a swim by the Hoover Dam!"
