Franklin family’s dogs taken by animal officer, placed with new owners

FRANKLIN, Maine — Last fall, the Warren family had two Golden Retrievers, Bella and Jake, that were considered integral members of a household which includes four young children.

Now the dogs have been placed with a new owner somewhere in New England after they took off from the Warrens’ yard in early November and failed to return.

Rags to Riches - a dog named Ruby

~ Penny Eims, Dog News Examiner

Florida - Ruby, a 14 month old Basset Hound, was living with an abusive owner not long ago. Her young body was infested with fleas - she was underweight - and she was a new mother.

The young dog had 7 tiny puppies to care for - her little ones had no shelter - they lived among trash and dirt...a miserable existence for innocent lives that deserved so much more.

Thankfully Ruby and her babies were brought to the attention of a Good Samaritan.

Mel Martin discovered the situation and made a decision to get the dog and her puppies away from their less than stellar owner.

Martin obtained assistance from the Putnam County Animal Control, and the dogs were secured from the neglectful owner.

And something happened at the time that the dogs were surrendered - something that usually takes time in court - the neglectful owner was ordered to never own animals again.

Now, Ruby is safe in a foster home with her adorable puppies. The London Sanctuary has stepped forward to care for these precious lives and they are currently in a foster home with Debi Reidel.

All that's left for these dogs is the final piece of the puzzle - loving, adoptive homes.

Tomorrow, May 14, the London Sanctuary will be hosting an adoption event at Petsmart, 8801 Southside Blvd., Jacksonville, FL at 10:00 am.

The puppies can't be in attendance because they are not completely vetted yet, but there will be photos and adoption information for interested individuals.

Vetting and care for 7 puppies and one neglected mother dog is expensive. A Chip-In has been established to help with these costs. Please consider donating the price of one latte towards these expenses - help those individuals that stepped forward to save these dogs from misery.

Ruby and her puppies are extremely lucky - they were saved from a lifetime of misery.

The puppies were taken in before they could become infested with fleas and worms like their mother - before they could be used for indescriminate breeding - before they were made to suffer from a life of neglect.

All thanks to the individuals that took the time to make a difference.
