The Florida Wiener Dog Derby has attracted hundreds of racers and thousands of spectators, and has is on the verge of becoming a national wiener dog racing destination.  The Florida Wiener Dog Derby has already attracted national attention, and racers from through out the entire country as well.

A portion of the proceeds from the event is donated to local animal welfare organizations.

Races are open only to dogs of pure dachshund breed ( No mixed breeds). The event has selected a veterinarian to validate the legitimacy of vaccine certificates, which are required for any dog participating in the event, and must specify the dachshund breed. Other events are open to any friendly breed, and will require a signed liability waiver in order to enter the event venue.

All entrants, vendors, and sponsors must sign a liability waiver.

A completed Registration Form is required for all race participants. (Each dog requires an individual Registration.)

All Divisional Races (Puppy, Old School, and Adult) REQUIRE Pre-registration. Day-of registration on site is only available for the Masters Division.

Advance registration is recommended for the Masters when possible.

Participants must agree that they have read, understand, and will adhere to all rules, regulations and requirements of the Florida Wiener Dog Derby and the event facility.

  

The Florida Wiener Dog Derby will consist of 4 race divisions:

  

Winners of the Puppy, Adult, and Old School divisions will receive an award ribbon signifying the division winner. Masters division winner will receive a cash prize, a trophy, and the coveted “Wien Jacket.”

 

Official race course will consist of 6 racing lanes with color designation. A starting gate with a straight lift-up door will be used. The dogs will wear color bandannas or collars provided by the Race Committee for easier winner identification. The race course surface will be of a sturdy indoor - outdoor carpet.

 

Puppy and Old School divisions’ race lanes will be 35 feet in length. Masters and Adult divisions will race 50 feet. Race lanes will be 2 feet in width. Dogs are not required to stay in lanes. All races will have officials on the course. Races will be conducted in heats according to the number of entrants in each division. The top 2 dogs of each heat will advance to the next round. The first dog to the finish line is considered the winner.

 

The registration fee for all dogs is $20.00, which must be paid at time of registration.

 

Due to the amount of dogs racing, the event will take most of the afternoon to conduct. Please understand that you may have a considerable wait time between races for your dog. We have done as much as possible to secure a shaded area and comfort for you and your dog in order to make this as enjoyable an experience for you and your pet(s) as possible.
